We employ an exclusive 50-point spyware and virus removal process to remove malicious programs from your computer. We don't just remove spyware and viruses, we help keep them from getting on your computer in the first place. Where many of our competitors tend to stop with the removal of those programs, we continue to work hard on your computer by fortifying and enhancing its defenses. The following list helps explain why our spyware and virus removal is more effective and less destructive than anywhere else:
- We usually do not have to restore your system to its original factory state. Other competitors suggest this option up-front, but the disadvantages are that (a) you may lose some or all of your valuable data, (b) you will have to reinstall all of your programs from scratch, and (c) you will have to reinstall all of your software drivers that make your printers and other peripherals work properly. You may end up investing several frustrating hours of your own time after this approach.
- We secure multiple points of entry to your computer, such as removing malicious ActiveX controls. ActiveX controls are software extensions used by Microsoft's Internet Explorer and are vulnerable to attack. (Note: Some ActiveX controls are useful, such as Sun's Java and Adobe's Flash player. These good controls are left intact on your machine where possible.)
- We reset security settings in Internet Explorer, for each user of your computer, to provide additional security for your Internet browsing for Web sites that require Internet Explorer to work properly.
- We disable unneeded and exploitable services such as the messenger service (not related to MSN Messenger) and DCOM services, among others.
- We manually flush the registry, a hidden component of Microsoft Windows, of malicious startup programs for each user on your computer.
- We ensure that your Internet surfing history and files are not passed through hacked or other malicious proxy servers.
- We remove viruses and spyware from Microsoft's hidden system restore folder on your hard disk drive. (Windows ME, XP, and Server 2003 [where applicable]) The advantage to this approach is that you cannot inadvertantly restore these malicious programs if you perform a system restore on your computer.
- We update your Microsoft operating system and Microsoft Office software to remove additional dangerous exploits. (You must provide a copy of your Microsoft Office CDs to take advantage of the office updates.)
We understand that your time, your computer, and your data is valuable. Our 50-point process ensures that we clean your computer quickly and correctly, the first time. Note that virus and spyware removal takes about 24 hours and sometimes up to 48 hours. The most prominent factors in the time taken are (a) the speed of your computer, (b) the number of files on your hard disk drive, (c) the total number of viruses and spyware, and (d) the difficulty of removing each malicious program. Please plan to leave your computer for the specified timeframe to ensure the best possible service.
Please note that due to the nature of the virus and spyware epidemic, we cannot guarantee immunity from future infections. You can, however, take steps on a weekly basis to help safeguard your computer.
